First Touch

First Touch 500“It’s not just a matter of life and death:

It’s much more important than that”

Football, the beautiful game and one played by boys all over the world.

Football, the game many will use to make vast sums of money from those young men.

Football, the game of hope for hundreds who need a new life in the golden land of Europe.

Football, the trap. The beautiful trap for young men who have their dreams smashed.

Football, the world of hope and sometimes – just sometimes – that hope lives and breathes and gives these young men new lives.

First Touch is a story of hope. Young men are culled from the playing fields of Africa, brought to Europe, and in the beginning abandoned. However, they fight. When they fight will they find support and in the end have the new lives they deserve among some of the wealthiest men in the rich lands far from home?

Ismael Bamba and Habib Akoun are two such young men as they follow different paths in hoping to realise their football dream.

With the World Cup in full swing, the timing of this book couldn't be better. This really opens the lid on how young black players are sucked into the mincing machine of modern football. A real eye opener.
